Overview
True serial device driver.
The TruPort software creates Unix devices that enable EasyServer II
serial ports to emulate standard serial ports. Applications can modify
TruPort device settings (such as speed, parity, flow control, etc.)
in the same way that they do for native serial ports. Furthermore, standard
system utilities can be used to configure peripherals such as printers
and modems.
Modem support.
Both non-modem and modem control ports are created where the operating
system (such as SCO Unix) supports both device types. For other operating
systems (such as SVR4 variants), only one device type is created.
Extended serial port
functionality.
TruPort supports all of Stallions extended serial port functionality,
as offered on Stallion multiport boards. This includes higher baud rate
support, "autocts" hardware flow control locking, port flushes and resets,
port statistics, etc.
TruPort ports are compatible
with standard serial ports.
TruPort employs the standard serial port implementation model applicable
to each Unix system. If the Unix system uses a Line Discipline serial
port model then TruPort also uses that model. If the host Unix system
uses a STREAMS interface, then TruPort will use STREAMS. This results
in native serial ports being compatible with TruPort configured ports
and standard serial ports.
Standard Unix tools.
All standard Unix system tools used with serial ports are supported
on a TruPort configured serial port. These include stty, getty, cu,
uucp, and lp, and system specific tools such as scoadmin
and sysadm. All standard system ioctls will also be
supported on the TruPort serial ports.
